Privacy Policy — The Everyday Christ

This is a small project. We collect as little as possible, we publish none of it without your permission, and we never sell any of it.

01Who is responsible

The Everyday Christ is an independent project run by an individual, who is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at any time at hello@theeverydaychrist.com.

02What we collect

There are no accounts on this site and no login. We only hold information you choose to send us.

  • Submission details: the title of your story, your self-chosen identity, the text of the story, your subject tags, and your email address.
  • Correspondence: any email or social media message you send us, and our replies.
  • Preferences: your light or dark theme choice, stored in your browser, not on our servers.
  • Basic technical data: IP address, browser type, and pages visited, recorded by our hosting provider in standard server logs for security and reliability.

03Why we use it

Your email address is used only to reply to you, to ask about an edit, and to tell you if your story is published. It is never published on the site, never printed in the book, and never shared with anyone else.

The story itself is used to publish the collection — on the site and in a future book — under the permission you grant when you submit it.

Technical data is used to keep the site available and to protect it from abuse.

05How long we keep it

Published stories are kept for as long as the collection exists. Submissions we do not publish, and the email addresses attached to them, are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Server logs are kept only as long as our hosting provider's standard retention period, for security and reliability purposes.

06Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with service providers who help run the project — our website host, our email provider, and, if used, a privacy-respecting analytics provider — each of whom may process it only on our instructions. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

The book, if published, will be produced with a printer and distributor. They receive the text of published stories and self-chosen identities only, never email addresses.

07International transfers

Our providers may store data outside your country, including in the United States. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the standard contractual clauses approved for international transfers.

08Your rights

You may ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, or withdraw your permission for a story to stay published. Email hello@theeverydaychrist.com and we will respond within 30 days.

If you are in the UK or EU you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office.

09Children

This site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If a submission from a child reaches us without a guardian's involvement, we delete it.

10Security and changes

Submissions are held in access-controlled systems and are visible only to the person running the project. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send us sensitive personal details you would not want stored.

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page will change with it. Material changes affecting published stories will be sent to contributors by email.
